Nancy practices in all areas of domestic and foreign Intellectual Property Law, focusing on trademarks, litigation, appeals, trade secrets, false advertising, copyrights and patents.
Named one of Portland's best lawyers by Portland Monthly magazine, Nancy is also listed in "The Best Lawyers in America"; and named one of the top 25 women lawyers in Oregon by "Oregon Super Lawyers" magazine. Nancy received the 2008 Judge James M. Burns Federal Practice Award and she is currently a member of the Federal Bar Association's National Board of Directors. In 2004 Nancy became founding president of the Pioneer Courthouse Historical Society. She was president of the Federal Bar Association, Oregon Chapter, 2002-2003, and has served as director. She also served as president of the U.S. District Court of Oregon Historical Society, 2000-2001, and served as a director, from 1997-2006. She chaired the U.S. District Court Local Rules Advisory Committee and has served as Lawyer Representative to the Ninth Circuit Judicial Conference. Other past affiliations include U.S. District Court Magistrate Merit Selection Panel, Oregon State Bar Legal Ethics Committee, Oregon State Bar House of Delegates, Oregon State Bar Federal Practice and Procedure Committee, and Oregon Women Lawyers. Nancy was admitted to practice in the state of Oregon and U.S. District Court for the District of Oregon in 1987; U.S. Court of Appeals, Ninth Circuit, 1988; U.S. Court of Appeals, Federal Circuit, 1996; U.S. Court of Appeals, Eighth Circuit, 1999; and U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, 1997. In 1984 Nancy earned her Juris Doctor degree from University of Iowa College of Law, Iowa City, where she was an Associate Editor of the Iowa Law Review. She received Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in Biology from the University of California, Riverside, in 1974 and 1975, respectively.
