Dennis focuses on patent prosecution, appeals and reexaminations; U.S. trademark registration, opposition and cancellation proceedings; and federal and state court litigation. His practice covers U.S. patents and trademarks, international patents and trademarks, technology licensing, chemical products and processes, pharmaceuticals, and dietary supplements.
Dennis was admitted to practice in the states of Oregon and California in 1972; U.S. Court of Appeals, Ninth Circuit, 1974; U.S. Court of Appeals, Federal Circuit, 1982; and U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, 1977. He served as law clerk to Hon. J. Clifford Wallace, Ninth Circuit, U.S. Court of Appeals. He also practices in U.S. District Court for the District of Oregon, U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington, U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Washington, U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California, and U.S. District Court for the District of Colorado.

Dennis is a member of the Association of Trial Lawyers of America, the American Patent Law Association and Multnomah Bar Association; past president of the Oregon State Bar, Patent and Trademark Section; and Oregon Patent Law Association Executive Committee. Dennis has served as a lecturer on intellectual property law at Portland State University and for continuing legal education programs for the Oregon State Bar. He has also served as an expert witness in patent infringement cases in federal courts.
In 2006, Dennis was voted by his peers to be one of Oregon's "Super Lawyers."
Dennis earned his Doctor of Jurisprudence, Magna Cum Laude, from George Washington University National Law Center, Washington, DC, in 1971. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry, Magna Cum Laude, from Brigham Young University, Provo, Utah, in 1967. His honors also include membership in Phi Kappa Phi National Honor Society, and associate editor, George Washington University Law Review.
Dennis’s interests include golf, skiing and travel. He speaks Finnish and Russian.
