Practice

Jake has special expertise in patents related to mechanical, hydraulic and computer-operated industrial devices and systems. He also has extensive experience in sports related consumer products. His legal areas of focus are international patents, trade secrets, trademarks, licensing, acquisitions and infringement disputes. Approximately 75% of his time is devoted to U.S. and foreign patent infringement disputes.

Professional

Jake was admitted to practice in the state of Oregon in 1964. His other admissions to practice include: U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, 1968; U.S. District Court for the District of Oregon, 1971; U.S. Court of Appeals, Ninth Circuit, 1972; and U.S. Court of Appeals, Federal Circuit, 1974. His clients include Cascade Corporation; Cascade Microtech, Inc.; Nike, Inc.; Taylor Corporation; Tidland Corporation; and Videx, Inc. Jake is a past president of the Oregon Patent Law Association and a member of the American Intellectual Property Law Association. He was selected one of Portland's Best Lawyers by "Portland Monthly" magazine, was named to the top fifty lawyers in all areas of practice in Oregon by "Oregon Super Lawyers" magazine, and since 1995 has been included in "The Best Lawyers in America." He has served as an expert witness on many occasions regarding infringement, validity, damages and licensing issues.

Education

Jake earned his Bachelor of Law degree from the University of Oregon School of Law, Eugene, Oregon, in 1964. He received a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Oregon State University in 1961.
