Jay practices in a variety of Intellectual Property Law areas, including patents, copyrights, and trademarks. He divides his practice primarily between litigation and patent prosecution.
Jay was admitted to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office in 2004 and was admitted to practice law in the state of Oregon in 2009. He began his professional career as an engineer at Intel Corporation in 2001 before transitioning to the field of intellectual property as a patent agent for Smith-Hill & Bedell in 2003. He joined Chernoff, Vilhauer, McClung and Stenzel in 2007, initially working as a patent agent while attending law school.
In 2009, Jay earned his J.D. from Lewis and Clark Law School, Portland, Oregon, where he focused on the study of Intellectual Property Law. He received a Bachelor of Science in Electrical and Electronics Engineering, with an emphasis on Digital Logic and Design, from Oregon State University, Corvallis, Oregon, in 2001.
Jay’s hobbies include playing poker, hiking in the woods with his black lab, cooking, and attempting to play the guitar.
