Bruce joined Chernoff Vilhauer in 1994.  He left Chernoff Vilhauer in 2002 to become General Counsel of Bend Research, Inc., a pharmaceutical contract research and development company.  He has returned to Chernoff Vilhauer in 2025 after 23 years at various in-house positions in the pharmaceutical field.

Bruce’s practice as a Bend patent attorney has encompassed a broad range of intellectual property matters, including patent and trademark prosecution, patent litigation, patent opinions, intellectual property counseling, and intellectual property licensing.  While in-house Bruce managed global patent and trademark portfolios.  He has conducted due diligence and intellectual property support for mergers and acquisitions.  He has drafted and negotiated a broad range of intellectual property agreements, including research and development agreements, joint development agreements, patent acquisitions, and license agreements,

His patent prosecution and opinion experience encompasses a broad range of technologies and industries.  His patent work has been in areas such as pharmaceuticals, sporting goods, outdoor equipment, industrial equipment and smart devices.  In the pharmaceutical field, his patent work has involved drug delivery technologies, active pharmaceutical ingredients, drug product, solid and liquid dosage forms, drug product intermediates (e.g., solid amorphous dispersions), capsules, excipients, polymers, pharmaceutical manufacturing processes (both large and small molecule), analytical devices, and sampling devices.

Bruce is a member of the Deschutes Country Bar Association, Oregon Patent Law Association, and American Intellectual Property Law Association.
